• Himalayan mountain clothes, which are environmentally friendly and do not cause deforestation or make use of child labour. Most of the raw materials such as hemp, nettle, cotton, silk, natural pashmina and paper products come from the mountains and are made by hand locally. The mountain clothes are very appropriate for the extreme climate of the Great Karoo, beautifully crafted and eco-friendly.

• The shop also stocks Farm Style products (balsamic vinegar to peri-peri sauces) that have no preservatives and figs from Weltevrede.

• Shasha beauty care products manufactured on the farm with our own olive oil, handmade and endorsed by Beauty Without Cruelty.

Sasha beauty care products

Shasha is the Vedic Sanskrit word for rabbit or hare. The word Shashank, which means moon in Sanskrit, contains the word Shasha within it, closely intertwining the concepts of the rabbit and the moon. In yoga, the rabbit pose, also known as the moon pose, is called shashankasana. This pose is an enactment of surrender allowing the conscious release of tensions and attachments.  Furthermore, the rabbit and moon symbols invoke our intuition, where a deep wisdom and sense of connectedness to all beings resides.

Shasha Skincare is situated in the Prince Albert Valley, home to the near-extinct Riverine rabbit. In selecting this beautiful animal as the symbol of our business we hope to draw attention to the routine torture of rabbits in the cosmetics industry, to re-establish the ancient associations of the rabbit and the moon and to restore the rabbit to a place of reverence and respect.

The Shasha ethos is encapsulated by the term ahimsa. This is the first tenant of yoga philosophy, which means to practice non-violence and compassion in all aspects of being – to ‘do no harm’. The Shasha rabbit stands as a tangible reminder that true existence is co-existence. It is the rabbit that reminds us that to do harm to others is to do harm to ourselves

• Various handmade products, like handmade shoes, bathmats, cushions, glassware and paintings can be enjoyed.

• Visitors are welcome to enjoy a cup of good coffee on the outside stoep, enjoying the mountain views and serenity of farm life.
