KREDOUW FARM, Prince Albert Valley, South Africa:

OLIVE OIL

Our objective, when producing olive oil, is to make a very definite oil with a strong pungency.

This is achieved through the variety of trees grown, the type of soil on the farm, the amount of water that reaches the olives, the time of picking and the pressing machine itself.

The picking time varies and the olives can be harvested when they are green, yellow, purple or as they are turning black.  On Kredouw we tend to harvest green olives resulting in an  oil that is green and pungent.

The olives are pressed within hours of their being hand-picked.

During 2008 a modern Italian olive oil press (Il Molinetto) was installed.

Old buildings were renovated to provide a  production facility which includes a small shop selling olive oil and other farm products.

PRODUCTS

The farm is home to the brand Karoo Virgin Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

The oil is supplied in various container sizes - litre cans, 500 ml cans, 500 ml bottles and 250 ml bottles.  For customers wishing to use the product in their restaurant kitchens, 5 and 2 litre plastic containers are available.

The Karoo  Virgin 1 litre can, as depicted in the photo, makes an excellent gift.  The design concept was introduced by Mr Anders Paulsson, a friend from Sweden who is constantly a source of ideas and enthusiasm.  The plan is to create a series of cans in variable sizes with differing labels and oil varieties, with a view to providing an interesting collection.
